Zohran Mamdani to End All Homeless Encampment Sweeps in NYC, Reversing Adams Policy
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announced Thursday that his administration will halt all homeless encampment sweeps in New York City starting in January, bringing an end to a central initiative of Mayor Eric Adams’ tenure.
Speaking at an unrelated press conference in Manhattan, Mamdani made clear his intent to break from the Adams administration’s approach to homelessness. “We are going to take an approach that understands its mission is connecting those New Yorkers to housing,” said Mamdani, who was elected as a Democratic Socialist and will take office in the new year.
